The elephant let go with little warning, expelling 200 pounds of dung and knocking Riesfeld to the ground, where he hit his head on a rock. The elephant evacuated his bowels completely, and about an hour later a watchman found the unlucky zookeeper buried in a pile of elephant excrement.
