This reminds me of Sarah Siverman, who pmed a guy who called her a c*nt, asked why his life was miserable & how she could help, & bathed him in kindness. She wound up paying for his back surgery, and helped heal a broken man. To me, silence is strength in a sea of trolls, and not a sign of fear. Silence says, “I truly do not give 2 shits what you think, & I’m choosing not to waste energy in response.” If the troll continues to spew, I don’t even know as I’ve walked away & disengaged. There are rare exceptions, of course, and if a troll is pooping on the work of a fellow writer, I have no problem stomping them out. I’m actually proud of my decision to remain silent…for now
