I began my dusty career in online platform writing here in February 2020. I had no idea how the process worked, and I think I published three times between February and April. I earned $0.10 and knew no one.

The pandemic hit, and I suddenly found myself with several lives worth of free time. I finally figured out the publication process and realized I could publish as often as I wanted. I began to connect with other writers — some who have become wonderful friends, and others who have plunged into the void with nary a word. I’d like to think my writing genius brought readers and connections my way. I’m medicating my delusions, though.

In all seriousness, if others hadn’t reached out to me and lifted me up, my time here would’ve petered out before I could reap the benefits. I see excellent writers disappear all of the time. People who expected instant success or felt like they were squirming in this rabbit hole alone. I wish I knew then what I know now, as the song goes. I’m confident that among the ex-platform members I loved, many would have mastered the process. Many would shine today.

Writer’s lifts crop up often here, and I try to read every curated list. Some showcase work, others give gratitude…
