Recently, I’ve entered a ton of fiction contests, & received the generic feedback plus a paragraph or so that says something like, “While you did not make the short list, we hope it helps to know that your short story particularly stood out to our readers. We loved your characters, dialogue, visual detail, and originality. We look forward to receiving submissions from you in the future.” This is almost tougher for me than generic rejections, because while encouraging, I have zero clue as to why I didn’t make the short list, or how to improve any further submissions to those publications. Ugh. At any rate, sorry for the rant & thanks for a great article, Roz!😄
