I unabashedly love and believe in Jesus. But even in the early 00s, before political identity seemed to become enmeshed with spiritual identity, I felt discomfort at what “church" had come to mean. I stopped feeling as if I “fit in" with a brick and mortar church. That discomfort has increased, obviously. I don’t know that Jesus ever meant for church to become a business nor do I believe He EVER wanted politics in the mix--he came to eradicate this sort of thinking. That said, I do believe accountability and growth is fostered in community. My love for God, adherence to His word, & desire to follow Him has never changed, but my desire to ever be aligned with a church--in the American definition of the word--certainly has ended. Thanks for sharing this!
