I hold a special place in my heart for Frank Perretti, even though he never quite makes it to "great storytelling and writing"😄. My biggest issues with "Christian" fiction, films, and contemporary music is 99.99% of them aren't works of art or stories that naturally unfold--they're written from a "how can I make this 'Christian" space, rather than allowing Jesus to show up authentically in the story or song lyrics, etc. And, why write for the choir? It feels like a quick and empty way to make a buck. Thus, I tend to enjoy novels by authors who happen to be followers of Christ, rather than "Christian novels" found in a mega church bookstore, which usually make me want to vomit😄
