I concur, Malky. I'm far more apt to buy my friends' self-published, online only for under $10.00. And to be fair, writing a short online piece and self-pubbing without an outside editor doesn't mean you've written an entire, amazing, well-crafted book. I have several writer friends who have written phenomenal self-published work, but I've found this is the exception to the rule, rather than the norm.
