I agree, to a certain extent. Authenticity--yes! Indie, undiscovered writers, yes! But I do think there needs to be quality writing AND content in well-distributed pieces. We have blogs all over the internet to turn to for the inner rants & messy writing. And, I do think having pubs like The Atlantic post their content here raises the credibility level (to the outside world) of the rest of us. Today, my favorite podcast cited 2 Medium articles as sources for the episode!! I geeked out, and appreciated the fact that Medium is becoming more well-known for quality writing & content.

I think Medium should fall somewhere in-between: We shouldn’t need a high-echelon writing background to “make it” here, but for those of us who are passionate about writing & want to grow as writers/ have opportunities outside of the platform, the authenticity should also be matched by excellent writing. I want to constantly grow as a writer, and admittedly, I dream of landing a short story in The New Yorker, and living solely off of creative writing income. I do feel like there’s value to those “fancy" publications and I do think there’s a place for them on this platform--I just think they should take a backseat to the amazing voices of writers trying to break through.
