Excellent write up, Simon! I wonder how much the time a film first imprints on us is responsible for our perspective, too. I first saw The Exorcist on HBO at a sleepover when I was 11--this still scares the crap out of me. I saw Angel Heart for the first time as an adult on some streaming service. While I find it haunting, atmospheric, & sufficiently creepy, it doesn’t scare me at all.
